Mammographic change in women on postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy

Abstract
|
|
|
Background : Increasing numbers of postmenopausal women are undergoing hormonal replacement therapy(HRT). We studied changes in the screen-film mammographic appearance of breast tissue after HRT. These changes included symmetric and asymmetric increase in breast density, and development of benign calcification etc.
Methods : This clinical study was performed on 67 women that had been treated HRT at Chosun university hospital between January 1997 and June 1999.
Results : 17 users(25%) had mammographic change after HRT, 8 had breast density change. 10 users had calcification or axillary lymph node enlargement change, but none had fibroadenoma of cancer change.
Conclusion : There is no difference between each age group and the rate of breast change comparing with clinical factors, according to the increase of taken period, the rate of breast change was increased.
